The other day, I noticed a coworker praising another coworker. It was genuine. It seemed to make an impact on the coworker receiving praise. He felt acknowledged, and often goes unrecognized unfortunately.
It got me thinking: wouldn’t it be great if this sort of thing happened all the time?
And the same way that virality in a product makes a consumer application get adopted widely, in most organizations, the force that drives adoption of a given practice just so happens to be some form of systematization.
Perhaps it’s publishing a memo. Maybe it’s a rule in employee contracts. Maybe it’s a department leader telling his employees they just have to do something.
But the moment something gets systematized, almost always the magic goes away.
Imagine a way in which that wasn’t true. Imagine if something that was started organically could spread in a leveraged manner?
I don’t know how this happens. But would love to.
